Terms of Service
Last updated 1 November 2026
These terms apply to MyCustomLogBook, the website at mycustomlogbook.com and the log book service it provides ("the service", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you use the service for a vessel or a company, you agree on its behalf and confirm you may do so.
1. What the service is
MyCustomLogBook lets a vessel build its own log books and keep them online. A vessel's account is run by its admins, who invite crew and give each person a role. We provide the tool; the vessel keeps the log.
2. Your log entries are yours
- Everything entered in a log book — readings, events, notes, corrections, voyage details and signatures — is the content of the vessel and the people who entered it. It is not ours, and we claim no ownership of it.
- We do not write, check, approve or edit entries. The crew member who makes an entry is responsible for it, and the vessel is responsible for its log as a whole: that it is accurate, complete, kept on time and meets whatever rules apply to the vessel (flag state, class, insurers, owners, charter or company procedures).
- You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store, back up, display and export your content for you and the people you share it with. We do not use your entries for anything else and do not sell them.
- We cannot confirm what happened on board. A record that cannot be changed shows what was entered and when, not that it was true.
3. Entries cannot be deleted
So that a log book can be trusted, entries are kept in an append-only record. Once saved, an entry cannot be changed or deleted, by you or by us in normal operation. Mistakes are fixed by adding a correction or a void, which keeps the original visible in the change history. Please enter information knowing that it stays in the vessel's record.
4. Not an official or approved log
The service is a record-keeping tool. Unless an authority has told you otherwise, it is not an approved or certified log book, and it does not replace any log, document or procedure a law or regulator requires. It does not monitor machinery, raise alarms or give technical, safety, legal or navigational advice. Never rely on it instead of your own checks, instruments and judgment.
5. Accounts and crew
- You must be at least 16, give accurate details and keep your password to yourself.
- Admins decide who is on the vessel's account and what each person can do, and are responsible for removing people who should no longer have access.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think it has been misused.
- While the service is in private testing, new accounts are by invitation only, and features may change or have rough edges.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use the service to:
- break any law, or record anything you have no right to record;
- access accounts or data that are not yours, or test, probe or overload the service;
- copy, resell or rebuild the service, or scrape it by automated means;
- upload malware or anything harmful.
We may suspend accounts that do, and we will tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it.
7. Trial, plans and payment
- Each vessel gets a free trial. When it ends, new entries need a paid plan; existing log books stay readable and can still be exported.
- Plans are per vessel, billed in advance monthly or yearly, and renew automatically until cancelled. Prices are shown before you pay and may be charged with taxes added. Payments are handled by our payment provider.
- You can cancel at any time; the plan then runs to the end of the period already paid. We do not refund part periods, except where the law gives you that right.
- If we change prices, we will tell you at least 30 days before your next renewal at the new price.
8. Your data when you leave
You can export a vessel's log books as PDF at any time. If a vessel's admins ask us to close its account, we delete its data within 30 days, except what we must keep by law (for example billing records). Because the log belongs to the vessel, a crew member who leaves does not take the vessel's entries with them; their name stays on the entries they made. See the Privacy Policy for more.
9. Availability
We work to keep the service running and your data safe and backed up, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. It needs an internet connection to save entries. Keep your own exports of anything you cannot afford to be without.
10. Our service
The software, design and brand of MyCustomLogBook belong to us. Your subscription lets you use the service; it does not transfer any of it to you. If you send us suggestions, we may use them freely.
11. Disclaimer and limits of liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we give no warranties beyond those stated here, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — such as lost profits, loss of data you did not export, fines, claims refused by insurers, or damage to machinery or vessels — or for the content of any entry. Our total liability for any claim connected to the service is limited to what you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or your rights as a consumer.
12. Ending the agreement
You can stop using the service at any time. We may end or suspend it for an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. If we ever shut the service down, we will give at least 60 days' notice so you can export your log books.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For changes that matter, we will tell account admins by email or in the app before they take effect. Using the service after that means you accept the new terms.
